Green Drinks

Networking-Knowledge-Nature

Green Drinks launches for 2026 with a great event on 12th March at The Seed Pod - Mooloolah River Landcare, 7pm - 9pm.

Come along to connect with like-minded people, enjoy food and drinks which will be available for purchase, and to hear from Nuk Athien-Hayes.

Nuk is a Project & GIS Officer with the Pine Rivers Catchment Association (PRCA), where they lead hands-on community conservation projects including workshops, community plantings and small grants programs, while also supporting on-ground outcomes through spatial analysis and GIS mapping.

A qualified Animal Ecologist and Veterinary Nurse, Nuk recently completed an honours thesis investigating the spatio-temporal relationships between humpback whales and large shark species in South East Queensland — research that sits at the cutting edge of marine ecology, predator–prey dynamics and conservation science.

Passionate about citizen science, wildlife biodiversity and catchment health, Nuk brings a rare mix of academic rigour and real-world experience to their work. Alongside their conservation role, they are a wildlife photographer, emergency veterinary nurse and outspoken advocate for marine protection.

For this special Green Drinks event, Nuk will unpack the fascinating — and often misunderstood — relationship between sharks and whales on the Sunshine Coast. Their talk will weave together original research, conservation insights, and timely discussion around Nets Out Now and the future of marine protection in our region.

This is a compelling, accessible and thought-provoking talk for anyone who cares about our oceans and the wildlife that depend on them.
